Atlanta Arts Alliance

[2023)

I am proud to be a founding member of the Atlanta Arts Alliance. This group is a coalition of small and medium arts organizations in Atlanta, Georgia. Anchored in the visual arts our purpose is to be an advocate for the many organizations that make up our arts ecosystem both non-profit and for-profit to better serve the artists and patrons of the greater Atlanta community.

The original Atlanta Arts Alliance was formed on August 2, 1963, largely as a response to the June 3, 1962 airplane crash at Orly Field in Paris that caused the death of 106 Atlanta art patrons. 2023 marked the relaunch of the Atlanta Arts Alliance. Bringing together arts organizations anchored in the visual arts, the Atlanta Arts Alliance hopes to grow the arts community in Atlanta with sustainable support and dynamic arts advocacy much in the same way that the original group did in 1963.

The Atlanta Arts Alliance presented our 1st City Wide Open Studio Weekend in 2023 from Friday, September 29th to Sunday, October 1st! Over 50 artists at 30 locations throughout Metro Atlanta participated in this event with hundreds in attendance. I had a blast helping put on this event and visiting studios all weekend. Here’s a few of my favorite studio visits: Dorothy O’Conner, Janelle Dunlap, and Fahamu Pecou.

As a part of Open Studio Weekend, we presented an event called “Creating Culture.” This event was a panel conversation about the Atlanta Arts Ecosystem featuring Allie Bashuk, Donovan Johnson, Janelle Dunlap, Namwon Choi, and Sarah Higgins. This panel was organized and moderated by me, Amanda P. Norris. We also highlighted an emerging Chef Blackstone as the food vendor and had live painting in the parking lot from Georgia Chalk Artists Guild.
