Plasma Magazine

[2017 - 2019]

For 3 years, I helped manage a DIY, volunteer-run publication called Plasma Magazine. This was an online magazine (with a few printed zine issues) covering all things DIY. Our mission was to highlight and start conversation about and archive the alternative, underground culture of Atlanta.

I wrote event recaps and artist interviews. I helped manage our website, adding new articles and updating information as needed. I also helped plan and produce Plasma Fest, our annual festival, in 2018 and 2019. This was a large-scale event featuring a lineup of local emerging bands, installation artists, and market vendors that attracted 500+ fans each year.

Plasma Magazine also hosted other events throughout the year ranging from zine release parties and open jam sessions to fundraisers and open mic events. We also had digital projects including creating playlists to promote local bands, producing a podcast called State of the Matter, and a music video series called Urban Decay

Helping with Plasma encouraged me to meet and network with local creatives doing cool things. I met hundreds of people through this platform and am thankful for the outlet Plasma Magazine offered to the Atlanta DIY community for five years 2015 - 2020. Although Plasma Magazine folded when the pandemic struck in 2020, the people involved continue to do other cool things around the city. These friends hold a special place in my heart.
